The rooms at Mustapha’s are one-of-a-kind. Designed organically by Mustapha, Culture and their friends, they vary from smaller bandas with access to quirky (and nearby) shared bathrooms to larger bungalows with their own bathrooms. From the African stylings of the Round Room, to the jungle charm of the Treetop Room, there is a room for everyone.
Treetop Room
Nestling up high, this room built with wooden poles is airy and charming, as well as being a bargain.
Green Room
for those who prefer to stay closer to the ground, the green room is a comfortable and affordable option
Yellow Room
This bigger room is good for those with children, or small groups traveling together on a budget.
Round Room
Big and airy, this is the closest Mustapha's has to a dorm, sleeping 3-6 downstairs in three double beds, and 2 upstairs in the roof.
Swiss Banda
A sizable and characterful bungalow with space for four people, but also good for couples wanting a bit of space.
Jacuzze
Opposite the bar, this bungalow is comfortable and charming – good for couples but can sleep more if necessary.
Africa House
Also known as "Honeymoon", this bungalow is slightly tucked away from the rest, so good for romantics, or families with children.
Bull & Hickman Room
These new and spacious rooms are set back in a private setting, great for couples who like to have their own space to relax. After a good swim you can enjoy a hot shower from your rain shower head in your private bathroom.
Jasmine room
Walking up a winding staircase surrounded by beautiful Bougainville flowers you will enter the Jasmine room with a private bathroom. This room has a great covered terrace for relaxing and is only a stones-throw from the nightly bonfire.
Kinoma room
This traditional makuti built bungalow is the newest here and offers two queen size beds with a private bathroom. A small family or two couples can relax outside on their own spacious porch.
Sunrise room
With its traditional makuti exterior and brightly painted interior, the Sunrise room is set in its own corner of the lush gardens. With one queen sized bed and one full it is a great space for a small family to enjoy.
Sunset room
The Sunset room offers two queen sized beds and a great outdoor space for reading during the day or stargazing at night. Built with traditional makuti you can feel the true Zanzibar spirit here.
Rooms and prices
Prices for the rooms at Mustapha's are low compared to most hotels on the island and you get access to the same stunning beach and beautiful plant life as many expensive luxury hotels, but with a more laidback vibe. Please contact us for prices, but these start from $15 per person per night, depending on the number of people and type of room.
For those of you wondering why accommodation in Zanzibar is a bit more expensive than on mainland Africa, the reason for this is having to import most foodstuffs, drinks and building materials - our costs are much higher than hotels on the mainland, so we have to pass some of that onto the customer to remain in business and to pay staff fair salaries. Nevertheless, we aim to keep prices as low as we can and to be accessible to those travelling on a budget.
